Exploratory data analysis using data visualization for finding trends/factors concerning infant mortality in Africa.

Introduction

Conducted exploratory analysis of World Economic Data through effective data visualization and identified strong correlation towards possible factors contributing towards infant mortality in Africa.

For this project, I compiled the entire procedure along with my calculations and findings, which can be viewed here.

Project Description

Abstract: This project aims to use Exploratory Data Analysis to ask more pertinent questions regarding infant mortality in the world.

This project was carried out in two main iterations, which allowed to refine the questions that I initially started with. At each iteration, a thorough explorative research was conducted using rapid data visualization in Tableau, to gain better understanding of the field and refine the questions further.

Initial Questions

After this initial data profiling, following are the initial questions that I decided to pursue:

  1. In which countries has the infant mortality worsened with the progression of time?
  2. Which regions in the world are the unhealthiest in terms of infant mortality?
  3. Are there any outliers in terms of the change in life expectancies in the world during the years 2000 to 2010?
  4. Are life expectancies and infant mortality correlated?
  5. How do the female and the male life expectancies depend on each other?

Iteration 2

In iteration 2, we go forward based on the findings in iteration 1. We have established that we would be focusing on the Health aspect of the African region, and the various measures and dimensions in the Health or other data segments that could affect the quantities under our consideration.

Refined Questions

  1. Is there a correlation between life expectancy and infant mortality in the African Continent?
  2. How do infant mortality and life expectancy correlate with the technology measures in the African continent?
  3. How do infant mortality and life expectancy correlate with the financial measures in the African continent?
  4. How does the life span of males vary against females in the different sub-regions of Africa?
